NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR CONSENT TO CONSTRUCT AND OPERATE A FLUE GAS DESULPHURISATION PLANT AT RUGELEY POWER STATION, RUGELEY, STAFFORDSHIRE

Notice is hereby given that Rugeley Power Ltd (“the Company”) has applied, under section 36 of the Electricity Act 1989, for the consent of the Secretary of State to construct and operate a Flue Gas Desulphurisation plant at Rugeley Power Station, Rugeley, Staffordshire, and for a direction, under section 90(2) of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, that planning permission for the development be deemed to be granted.
A copy of the application, with a plan showing the land to which it relates, together with a copy of the Environmental Statement, explaining the Company’s proposals in more detail and presenting an analysis of the environmental implications, with a non-technical summary thereof, may be inspected, during normal office hours, at the following addresses:

Staffordshire County Council, Riverway, Stafford, Staffordshire ST16 3TJ;
Cannock Chase District Council, Civic Offices, Beecroft Road, Cannock, Staffordshire WS11 1BG;
Lichfield District Council, District Council House, Frog Lane, Lichfield, Staffordshire WS13 6YZ;
Rugeley Town Council, 26 Anson Street, Rugeley, Staffordshire WS15 2BA; and
Rugeley Town Library, Anson Street, Rugeley, Staffordshire WS15 2BB.

Copies of the Environmental Statement (price £40) and the Non-Technical Summary (free of charge) may be obtained, while stocks last, from the FGD Consent Application Office, Rugeley Power Station, Rugeley, Staffordshire WS15 1PR. The Non-Technical Summary may also be found in the “Downloads” section of the International Power website (www.internationalpowerplc.com).
Any objections to the proposals, stating the name of the power station and the grounds of the objection, should be made in writing to the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, Room 170, 1 Victoria Street, London SW1H 0ET, not later than Friday 26 July 2002.
