It is SSL’s policy to always undertake its work in accordance with the relevant statutory provisions on environmental management and control, using best practice methods outlined in the relevant codes and standards. The company is actively proceeding towards an Environmental Management System that complies with ISO 14001 to control the environmental aspects of all activities. SSL is an environmentally aware company and strives to ensure that business activities have the minimum possible adverse impact on the environment. The prevention of pollution, the use of renewable or sustainable resources and the reduction in waste are prime objectives to be achieved by SSL. Manufacturing waste is minimised and materials are recycled or re-used wherever possible. Recycled packaging and goods are used wherever practical to minimise the requirement for raw materials. In addition the use of electronic documentation is actively encouraged. All applicable environmental guidelines and requirements are complied with. UK legislation to implement the EU Directives on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment and the Restriction of Use of Hazardous Substances is reflected in our procedures for handling waste and SSL is registered on the WEEE scheme. The Managing Director holds ultimate responsibility for ensuring adequate environmental controls are implemented and the day-to-day management of environmental issues is delegated to all managers who implement and act on this policy in conjunction with their staff. The principle of effective environmental management is an integral part of SSL management functions.
